Privacy Policy
Long Whistle is used by families with children in it. We built it local-first so that there is very little for us to know about you, and we would like to keep it that way.
Who we are
Long Whistle LLC is a Texas limited liability company. You can reach us at support@longwhistle.com.
This website
This website does not use cookies, analytics, advertising, or third-party scripts. Fonts are served from our own domain rather than a font network. We do not build a profile of you, and we set nothing in your browser that follows you anywhere.
Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard web server request data (such as IP address and browser user agent) in order to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. We do not use that data for analytics or marketing.
The Long Whistle app
The Long Whistle app is local-first: the race data you enter is stored on your own device. It is not sent to us, and we do not run a server that receives it. We do not require an account to use the app.
Because the data stays on your device, we cannot see your swimmer's times, meets, or notes, and we cannot recover them for you if your device is lost or the app is deleted.
Children's privacy
Long Whistle is intended to be set up and operated by a parent or legal guardian, not by a child. It is built for youth swimmers, and the choices below exist because of that.
- Local-first storage. Race data lives on the parent's device by default, not in an account on our servers.
- Parent-owned data. The parent or guardian who enters the information controls it, and can edit or erase it at any time from within the app.
- Only what the analysis needs. The app stores a swimmer's name and birth date because age-group cutoffs and standards depend on them. It does not ask for a school, address, or photograph. Like everything else, this stays on the device.
- No ranking between children. There are no leaderboards and no kid-versus-kid comparisons anywhere in Long Whistle. A swimmer is only ever compared to their own previous races.
- No advertising and no sale of data. We do not serve behavioral advertising, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
- Parental consent. By setting up a swimmer, the parent or guardian is providing consent for the information they choose to enter. A child should not be entering their own information without a parent.
- Deletion on request. Deleting a swimmer, or deleting the app, removes the data from the device. If we ever hold anything about your family, write to us and we will delete it — see below.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information directly, contact support@longwhistle.com and we will delete it.
When you email us
If you write to support@longwhistle.com, we keep your message and your email address so that we can answer you and keep track of the conversation. Please do not include your child's full name or other details you would rather we did not have.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Email support@longwhistle.com and we will respond. In most cases the honest answer will be that we hold nothing but the email you sent us.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes that affect how your family's information is handled will be described in plain language rather than buried in a revision.
